In this blog we discuss NPower Business energy bills. We strongly encourage small business owners to find the lowest business energy prices in the market. In order to secure the best price we recommend that you have your business energy bill handy.
To help small business owners we are writing blogs about reading and understanding business energy bills. Each blog will focus on a different energy company. In this blog we focus on NPower Business energy bills. We use NPower’s own example provided on their website.
The main point of information is how much energy the business is using and whether the business has one or several energy meters. The example below is for a small business with a single meter.
When you are switching energy providers your meter’s address, billing period and billing period usage are really important. Other energy companies want to know your business meter address (sometimes it is different from your registered business address). Energy companies also want to know how much energy you consume. – this can be per month, per quarter or per year.
Billing period and your meter’s address
To find your billing period and business meter address on the NPower business energy bill, please look just below ‘Customer account’ which appears under Number 1 on the bill. You will find in much smaller font your ‘Supply address’. This is the address for your meter.
Typically the bill will consist of several pages (often double side printed). We focus below on the typical bill as presented by NPower in the public domain for illustrative purposes. The cover page usually has summary information about your business and charges. Subsequent pages have information about your business energy consumption and rates. NPower is a little bit different in that their bill gives us the most useful information upfront.
In this NPower example, the period is for one quarter between March and June. We will show below how you calculate your monthly, and annual consumption using the above information.
Your NPower Energy usage
To find energy consumed during the period please take a look at the row next to the big ‘B’ in a blue circle (in the image below from the sample NPower bill).
Please take a look at the last column, called, ‘Total’. In this column you will see a number. This number is your total consumption for one quarter as this sample bill is for one quarter. The sample NPower energy bill shows just one total consumption number. This number is 334 Kwj or Kilowatt hours. This number is critical for your business energy comparison and finding the lowest business energy price for your business.
That means that during one quarter the business consumed 334 Kilowatt hours.
Estimating Monthly Energy Consumption
To get a monthly consumption you can approximate by dividing the above number by three. So we get, 334 / 3 = 111.33 Kwh consumed per month. This is an estimate of course, but is a good guide based on the actual consumption.
Estimating Yearly Energy Consumption
If you want to figure out your yearly consumption you can multiply 334 times 4 = 1,336 Kwh.
Now you are armed with great information to start killing the energy bills. You can compare business energy prices, find the lowest business energy price and best business energy provider and switch.
